is absolutely delighted on hearing the announcement from Adjudicator Vernon Midgley.

At left:

ANTHONY accepts first prize of $5,000 and the trophy from Genevieve Becroft of The David and Genevieve Becroft Foundation.

and at right: ANTHONY also received a grant of $2,000 from the Les and Sonia Andrews Cultural Foundation  to enable him to enter the McDonald's Aria Contest in Sydney.

The runner up 

DARREN PENE PATI

was unable to stay for the presentation of the Awards as he had to catch a flight to London with the Auckland University Choir.

He receives $2,000 from Auckland Opera Forum.

The THIRD PRIZE winner 

ELIZABETH MANDENO

receiving a cheque for $500 from Dame Dierdre Milne of the Auckland Opera Forum.

Elizabeth also received $500 from North Shore PACS, and from the NZ Opera School, entry equivalent to $500 towards attendance at the next Opera School.

The four contestants able to be present for the presentation of the Awards were Elizabeth, Anthony, Breony and Xing Xing.

It was Adjudicator VERNON MIDGLEY'S birthday and so the final song of the evening was "Happy Birthday" sung by everybody, audience included, and accompanied on the piano by Rosie.
